Double milestone for Waterhouse FC
This year, Waterhouse Football Club is celebrating two significant milestones. The first and more significant is, “Our Club is now 50 years old,” said club chairman Bruce Bicknell.
The second relates to the 20th anniversary to the day of the club winning it’s first National Premier League Championship in 1998, defeating Seba United, now (Montego Bay United FC), to raise the coveted cup that signalled football supremacy in the land.
Bicknell thanked sponsors ICWI Group Foundation for its financial backing to the Drewsland-based club. The corporate entity will be presenting the club with a cheque during Monday night’s home game against Harbour View FC.
“I would like to thank and applaud one of our sponsors, ICWI Group Foundation, who has remained committed to our development ever since the stadium was built 15 years ago in 2003, by providing $1 million to the club each year, so that’s $15 million in 15 years. In a business environment where there are so many competing options, we applaud the ICWI Group Foundation team for their steadfast commitment to Waterhouse FC.” Bicknell said.
Waterhouse FC is currently placed sixth in the Red Stripe Premier League, with hopes of challenging for this year’s championship in its 50th anniversary year. “Our players and staff have committed themselves to making this a special celebratory year for the people of the community and all our sponsors and stakeholders,” said Waterhouse general manager David Henry.
“The ICWI Group Foundation is pleased to continue to provide this kind of support to the Waterhouse FC because of their committed continued community development through sports is having a meaningful impact on the lives of hundreds of young men and women and truly is a model that should be replicated across Jamaica,” commented Paul Lalor-President, ICWI Group.
