Woman among four arrested after gun find
Two firearms and an several assorted rounds of ammunition were seized on Dalling Street, Westmoreland, on Saturday.
Police say three males and a female are in custody in connection with the seizure. Their identities have not been revealed.
Reports are that about 5:45 a.m., lawmen were on operation in the area when a premises was searched and two Glock pistols, 42 9mm cartridges, 21 .40 cartridges and four magazines were seized.
Today is nomination day
The Jamaica Labour Party is slated to nominate Dr Nigel Clarke and the People’s National Party is set to put up Keisha Hayle to contest the March 5 byelection in North West St Andrew.
The seat became vacant following the resignation of Derrick Smith as Member of Parliament.
Nomination Day activities will also take place in Norman Gardens, East Kingston and Port Royal. A by-election will be held there to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Angela Brown Burke who is now a Member of Parliament.
Head of the Manchester police, Superintendent of Police Wayne Cameron, said criminals fleeing the state of emergency in St James have been turning up in the parish.
“We have people who are coming into our space because of the public state of emergency ... Manchester is considered one of the safer places and so we have to remain very alert and keep our ears close to the ground,” Cameron said
Cameron said that three men from Trelawny are now in custody following an operation where a number of illegal firearms were seized.
The St Thomas police arrested a suspect in relation to the double murder of an elderly couple, in Retreat, St Thomas on Tuesday, January 9.
The suspect was held in Seaforth district, St Thomas on Wednesday.
Melbourne Flake, 81, and his wife, 70-year-old Etta Flake, were found at their home, motionless with their hands and feet bound. The police were alerted and they were both taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead. A man whom the police describe as a ‘professional bailerman,’ pleaded guilty to several offences when he appeared in the St Andrew Parish Court last Thursday.
Bailey, who was charged with three counts of uttering forged documents, forgery and attempting to pervert the course of justice, pleaded guilty to all the charges when he appeared before the court.
Reports are that sometime in 2017, Bailey used forged documents to bail a murder accused at the Supreme Court in the sum of $300,000. It was later discovered that the documents produced were falsified.
Former councillor for the Mocho Division of the Clarendon North Central constituency Fay Simpson is dead.
Simpson, a member of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), left served for 18 years. A popular businesswoman in Osbourne Store Clarendon, Simpson was known for being a selfless woman who was always finding new ways to get better opportunities for her constituents.
