CD Master joins dancehall’s charity wave
Veteran disc jock and music producer Oneil Wayne Parkinson, more popularly known as ‘CD Master, recently hosted a charity event to benefit the community of Cooreville Gardens.
According to CD Master, after noticing several socio-economic ills within his neighbourhood, he felt compelled to do something not only to uplift, but also unite the residents.
This thought became the catalyst for his recently concluded bingo party and family fun day, which pulled hundreds of patrons from within the community and surrounding areas.
As part of the proceedings, he also raffled a Samsung flatscreen television set, from which part proceeds from the combined earnings were handed over to Vladimir Wallace, president of the Cooreville Gardens Citizens Association, to assist with community improvement projects. In total, the association got $54,000. According to the DJ, he is following the footsteps of other members of the music industry who have been assisting with community and nation building.
“People tend to make it seem like the music only breathes negativity. I and other persons in music have shown that this is not entirely true. We have given back to the community and we also provide hope to others that there is another way,” he said.
Recently, Bounty Killer donated 63 beds to the Kingston Public and Victoria Jubilee hospitals.
CD Master said based on the feedback, he was now looking at assembling a team to make the event a biannual one, “especially because I want to help the senior citizens and children next time around”.
CD Master operates the Inna Mi House Music label and is currently working on a number of projects including the soon-to-be released Pride and Joy rhythm, featuring reggae heavyweights like Bugle.
Other upcoming projects include a dancehall compilation with artistes like Etana and Nesbeth, along with two singles, courtesy of Sizzla Kalonji and Bramma.
