W’house looking to revive play-off hopes
Tenth-place Waterhouse need to win their Red Stripe Premier League Monday night match this evening against relegated Sandal South Coast at the Drewsland Stadium if they intend to stay with the chasing pack and keep their hopes for a top-six place alive.
The STAR Coach of the Month of January, Donovan Duckie, has seen his team slip from sixth to 10th after tasting defeat for the first time in 11 games against Harbour View last Monday. They will more than fancy their chance of taking maximum points from the Westmoreland side, a result which would lift them back to ninth and just two points adrift of fifth-place Montego Bay United, and one behind Harbour View, UWI and Reno, who are on 39 points each.
Meanwhile, Sandals’ time in the league came to an end yesterday after ninth-place Humble Lion beat Cavalier 5-1 to move 16 points clear of the relegation zone, which makes it impossible for Sandals (19) to catch them with five matches to go and just 15 points available to them.
LATE CONSOLATION
At Effortville, double strikes from Andrew Vanzie and Levaughn Williams and another from Cory Hylton sealed the win for the Clarendon club with Alex Marshall netting a late consolation for the visitors.
At Frome, goals from Kemoy Carugher and Fancy Hue Stewart carried hosts Reno to a surprise 2-0 win over secondplace Arnett Gardens.
UWI also registered a massive result after a 3-0 win over league leaders Portmore, who were losing for the third time in seven games. Andre Bernal got the hosts off the mark on eight minutes, before Anthony Greenland and captain Akeen Thensted added further strikes in the second half.
At the Barbican Complex, Harbour View had to came from behind to beat already relegated Boys’ Town. Bebeto McDonald fired the ‘Red Brigrade’ in front in the first half, but second-half goals from Daniel Green and Nicholas Beckett saw Harbour View to victory.
At the Edward Seaga Sport Complex, Lesley St Fluer continued his recent good goalscoring form when he bagged the game’s only goal to give Montego Bay United a 1-0 win over Tivoli. MoBay stayed fifth with 40 points.
