UWI FC looking for five straight wins
They stunned Portmore United 3-0 in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) on Sunday, now UWI FC are gearing up for an upcoming clash against Harbour View, one of three teams battling to consolidate sixth place with just five rounds of games to go.
Sunday’s win kept UWI FC on the same amount of points (39) as Harbour View and Reno, and Peart says it doesn’t matter which opponents they play, they must take maximum points from their remaining fixtures.
“It is just important that for these last five games, including this one, we must try to win. This one (Sunday’s victory) gives us a good feeling going into the game against Harbour View, who are direct rivals for sixth place,” he said.
After giving up two second-half goals to share the points with Arnett in the previous game, Peart thought they showed a lot more concentration to get the result on Sunday.
“It was also important in the latter part of the game to keep a clean sheet, because with that (Arnett) game in mind you thought the team would start to retreat into a defensive mode, but they kept going and got the goals.
“So the mindset has to be right, the approach has to be right before you can go out and display your talent and get the result,” he said.
He says if they can put together the run of wins they are looking for at this stage of the league, it would greatly boost their morale going into the play-offs.
“You can’t really judge from one or two games, because the team has to feel the responsibility that they have to do better each game. We need to repeat this for the rest of the round, and if we can do that we will go into the play-offs more confident,” he said.
