Richards to give it his best shot
Following a below par display in Sopot, Poland, four years ago, Jamaican shot putter O’Dayne Richards said he is determined to put on a good show at this year’s IAAF World Indoor championship here.
The 29-year-old Richards, who won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Beijing, China in 2015, had earlier produced a tame performance at the World Indoors in 2014 Championships, were he failed to get beyond on the first round of the competition.
However, Richards, who has a season’s best throw of 20.55m, said he has worked very hard this year and so he will be giving it his best shot.
“I plan to go out there and do my best because it is my second indoor meet and so I want to make it a memorable one,” said Richards, who is the national outdoor record holder with a mark of 21.69m.
“My last Indoor championships was terrible because 19.77 and I copped out in the first round,” he said.
“My preparations this year have been very good and very calculated and so I am expecting big things,” Richards said. “I think that it is very possible that I can win a medal,” he said.
However, he pointed out that he will have to throw over 22 metres to claim a medal at the championships.
“I am not sure if I am in 22 metres shape right now, but I am just going out there to do my best,” said Richards, who is the reigning Commonwealth Games champion. He will begin his quest for a medal tomorrow. I threw
