Waterhouse, Tivoli seek crucial points in west Kingston

Waterhouse will look to continue their good form when they clash against Tivoli Gardens in a top-six Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) match at the Edward Seaga Complex tomorrow at 3 p.m.

With four rounds remaining in the preliminary stage, the battle for spots in the top six play-off for the championship title is highly intense.

Only leaders Portmore United have secured a spot, so that means nine teams are battling for five available places.

Waterhouse assistant coach, Akeno Morgan, said that the aim is to go to Tivoli and leave with a positive result.

“It is a crucial game against Tivoli tomorrow, as based on the points standings, the battle is close for a top-six finish. A win would push us, while a draw could prove to be a setback,” Morgan said during the weekly RSPL press conference at the Jamaica Football Federation headquarters in New Kingston, yesterday.

“The victory against Portmore was a morale boost, so that is done and we are looking forward to Tivoli,” he added.

Waterhouse will rely on their leading marksman Kemar ‘Bushy’ Beckford, who is on 11 goals, as well as Cardel Benbow, national defender Shawn Lawes, captain Nicholi Finlayson, Tremaine Stewart, and goalkeeper Diego Haughton.

Coach of Tivoli, Omar Edwards, is fully aware of the importance of not losing against Waterhouse.

“It is a very important game. We are mindful that Waterhouse are doing pretty well. They are coming to our home ground and we want to press home advantage. At this stage, every point is crucial,” Edwards noted.

“The game will be a difficult one against Waterhouse, but the players will leave it all on the field, and, hopefully, come away with a victory,” he pointed out.

Tivoli will welcome back veteran striker Jermaine ‘Teddy’ Johnson and national midfielder Tevin Shaw after they missed the last game. Tivoli also have other quality players, such as captain Romaine Brackenridge, Barrington Price, Junior McGregor, and Howard Morris.
