Harbour View’s Taylor hails new recruits

- MARC STAMP STAR Writer

Assistant coach of Harbour View Football Club, Fabian Taylor, says his team’s current top-six position in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) is because of the attacking players brought in during the recent transfer window.

Harbour View climbed into the qualification spot when they edged the UWI FC 1-0 last Sunday at Harbour View Stadium. New recruit Deshane Beckford scored the winning goal in the first minute.

Since the third and final RSPL preliminary stage, Harbour View have won five and lost three games to pick up 15 points from a possible 24. Now, with three games remaining, the Stars of the East have 42 points and behind leaders Portmore United who are on 62, Arnett Gardens (48), Tivoli Gardens (46) and Cavalier and Waterhouse on 44 points apiece.

EXPERIENCED PLAYERS

“We brought in some experienced players upfront and they have made a big difference in our turnaround. They are Rafiek Thomas, Marcelino Blackburn and the youngster from MoBay (Montego Bay United) Deshane Beckford,” Taylor told STAR Sports yesterday.

“They have come in and are scoring goals to help the team. Blackburn and Thomas are using their experience to guide the team. Both players were at Harbour View before so they understand the system and settled in nicely,” the former national senior team striker added.

“I think that has made the difference. We were struggling in front of goal,” he explained.

With three games remaining, Harbour View have some tough opponents and Taylor is fully aware of the situation.

“It is a very tricky run in. We have Reno on Sunday, then Arnett Gardens and Portmore United, all tough games. No game is easy in the premier league. We only can take care of our business by winning the games in front of us. We have matters in our own hands, so the plan is go to Reno for full points,” Taylor concluded.
