Speid: We should be playing better

- ROBERT BAILEY STAR Writer

Technical director of Cavalier SC Rudolph Speid said he is very concerned about his team’s form going into Sunday’s Red Stripe Premier League encounter against UWI FC at the UWI, Mona Bowl.

Cavalier, who were promoted to the league this season, are currently fourth in the standings on 44 points.

However, after an excellent showing in the first two rounds of the competition, they have dropped form since the start of the third, which saw them recording just two wins in eight matches.

Speid told STAR Sports that this is a major concern for his team, but he is hoping that they can turn around things against UWI tomorrow.

“From the start of the third round, we played eight matches and we only have nine points. So this is a real problem for me right now because this translates into two wins, three losses and three draws,” said Speid.

“We are definitely not playing as well as we were in both the first and second rounds, and the beginning of the third round. So this is a cause for concern for us,” he said. “I think if we had just played normally, we would have qualified for the top six already,” Speid said.

VERY DESPERATE

Speid added that tomorrow’s match should be very exciting as both teams are very desperate for the points, which will enhance their chances of qualifying for the top six.

“This is an interesting round because everybody is going for points at this stage of the competition and it is down to the wire for the top six,” Speid said.

“We need a positive result against the UWI and they need a positive result too, so it should be a very exciting game on Sunday,” he said.

UWI are currently ninth in the standings on 39 points.
