Kasheika Cameron proud to represent parish at Champs

Freshly minted ISSA/ GraceKennedy Girls Class One 100m champion Kasheika Cameron of Edwin Allen High School said she is very delighted that she was among the gold medals winners who hail from Clarendon, where the school is located.

Cameron, who is from Chapelton in the parish, was among one of three individual gold medallists out of 22 athletes on the team, that was born in Clarendon. The team consisted of 88 competitors.

Brianna Watt and Peter-Gay McKenzie were the other gold medal winners from the parish.

Cameron told STAR Sports that her family is very delighted that she captured gold at the championships.

“This is my first individual gold medal and knowing that I am from Clarendon, I know that I made my family and parish very proud,” said Cameron, who finished fourth in last year’s 100m final.

“It feels great to be 100m champion because I trained very hard at the development meets, so I knew I was going to win it at the championships,” said the 19year-old Cameron.

She added that now that her Champs career has ended, she plans to attend college in the United States next season.

“I will be going to Penn Relays next month and after that will be attending college in the United States, and so I am looking forward to that,” said Cameron.

“I have received one offer from Clemson University so far, so I am waiting to see if I will get any other offers,” she said.

“You can expect great things from me going forward because my aim is to improve on my personal best time of 11.29 seconds in the 100m. So I am going to train very hard towards that from now on,” she said.
