Foster annoyed by disallowed goal

- LIVINGSTON SCOTT STAR Writer

Portmore United’s Maalique Foster continued his impressive run of form with another standout performance in Jamaica’s friendly international against Antigua and Barbuda, which drew 1-1 at Sabina Park on Sunday.

Despite not getting a goal, the 21-year-old was the brightest player on the park for the Reggae Boyz and his movement off the ball created problems for the visiting Antiguans and gave the locals some of their best opportunities to score. He did find the net minutes before the half-time break, but was ruled offside after goalkeeper Bretton Muhammad parried Romario Williams’ effort into the striker’s path and he slotted home from six yards.

“I want to score in every match, so that makes me feel a little down. I am disappointed because I wanted to score,” he told STAR Sports.

“But it’s a tremendous feeling knowing that I came here on home ground and showed my class. I feel great about that. I got a goal that was not given and it’s all in the game but I thought I got it,” he said.

ALMOST SUBSTITUTED

The player was nearly substituted just after the disallowed goal, after an overzealous fan ran to congratulate him leading to a collision with Foster, who laid on the turf injured for some minutes.

At one point team manager Roy Simpson signalled for him to be substituted but eventually Foster recovered and returned for the final few minutes of the half. Foster insisted it was nothing major.

Foster eagerly awaits the next international where he will look to score.

“Once I continue to work hard, I expect I will continue getting chances and I am looking to get one in the next game,” he said.
