Players quit on Clarks Town FC
The competition’s committee for the Jamaica Football Federation’s Western Confederation/Charley’s JB Rum Super League recently imposed a $100,000 fine on Clarks Town FC for failure to complete their Super League fixtures.
“Really and truly it’s the players’ fault, because they are just not interested anymore,” said Dudley James, captain of the Trelawny-based team.
“We cannot a turn up for a match in Westmoreland with seven, eight or nine players, so I don’t see the sense in it,” he said, noting that everyone turns up for home matches.
James added that they are going to make some sort of arrangement with the Trelawny Football Association on how they will go about paying off the fine incurred.
Article 7.3 of the rules and regulations state: “A club withdrawing after the start of the competition shall automatically be fined One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00) and forfeiture of entry fees. The club shall also be referred to the Complaints and Disciplinary Committee for further penalty.”
Marlene Brown, the competition’s coordinator, told WESTERN STAR that Clarks Town left them no choice after they had two meetings with them, explaining what the penalty would be.
“They looked at it and said it would be cheaper for them to finish the league than to be put in that position. They agreed to commit to the fixtures and then they failed to do so, which left us no choice but to impose the fine,” said Brown.
