New road might bring new problems

Leroy Ricketts, a resident of Lionel Town, Clarendon, says he is elated about the road that is being fixed – something he has been looking forward to for many years.

However, as happy as he is, he said he is afraid of the dangers such a smooth surface will present.

He told THE STAR that he is concerned about his daughter’s safety after the roads have been fixed.

“The man dem always a fly like seh a plane dem a drive, so if dem use to gwan so pan road weh did mash up and tan bad, how dem a go behave now that it a fix?” he asked.

Another resident said she is calling on the authorities to speak with taxi men and other motorists about how they drive.

“Right yah now, me concern. The police affi go do supm bout di taxi man dem. Me ‘glad bag’ buss when me see the road a fix, but den me start fret when me see how dem a drive pan the road,” she said.

The area, called ‘Three Sisters Pump’, located between the Hayes and Lionel Town communities, has been known to be one of the most dangerous crash spots in the area.

People are asking the men that ply the May Pen to Lionel Town route to be very careful when driving and not put others at risk.

“Right now, as a man weh tek taxi every day fi go work, me a beg the taxi man dem fi go easy. The last big accident was years ago when five people dead at Three Sisters Pump out deh so. We nuh need nothing like that fi happen again,” he said.
