St James teams dominate confed semi-finals

-

FC headlines three St James teams and one from Trelawny that are through to the semi-finals of the JFF Western Confederation/Charley’s JB Rum Super League after Sunday’s final set of matches in the cross-zone round was concluded.

Faulkland had a 1-0 victory over Beaches Negril FC courtesy of a Niel Clarke 18th-minute strike. Faulkland secured top-spot finishing with 37 points.

Reggae Youths FC, who finished two points behind the mid-season champions, gave Grand Palladium FC a 4-1 thumping through a double from top marksman Shanoy Anderson, who was supported by Andrew Allen.

Three teams were locked on 29 points for the other two semi-final spots, but Wadadah FC and Trelawny’s Harmony FC advanced on goal difference after Romaine Lewis’ 79th-minute strike saw Harmony getting the better of Wadadah.

Marlene Brown, the competition’s coordinator, said that apart from Clarks Town FC failing to honour their fixtures, the competition has been pretty decent.

However, she said that the organisers are not satisfied with the organisational structure of the clubs, which seem to lack a sense of direction.

“We are running an amateur competition, yes, a lot more funding needs to be put in place, but the clubs need to organise themselves. Nobody is going to come on board if you don’t have a proper product that they can tag their company name to,” said Brown.

She added: “Until the clubs realise where football is going and what we need to do to get there, just honouring the fixture won’t do it. So as a committee, I don’t think we are fully satisfied with the organisation, which is the structure of the clubs.
