Romelda will improve – Henry

- ROBERT BAILEY STAR Writer

Head coach of Jamaica’s senior netball team Sasher-Gaye Henry has backed goal shooter Romelda Aiken to deliver in their remaining matches at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Aiken, who is representing the national team for the first time since 2016, following an impasse with Netball Jamaica, has not been at her best so far at the tournament, where she is averaging 84 per cent shooting in four matches.

In fact, Aiken, who plies her trade in Australia for Queensland Firebirds, has been guilty of missing a number of easy shots under the basket for the Sunshine Girls.

However, Henry told STAR Sports from the team’s base in Australia yesterday, that the towering shooter has been improving as the competition progresses and she expects her to get a lot better as the competition continues.

STRUGGLED

“I would not say that she is struggling because I think that we have struggled also in passing the ball over to her,” said Henry.

“She has been away from the team for some time and so her style has changed a bit and our style has changed also,” she said.

“I think she has improved and so we are quite happy about that and I think that when it comes to the big games, she will play even better when it matters most,” Henry said.

The Sunshine Girls, who are unbeaten at the tournament, are scheduled to face host Australia in their fifth game tomorrow at 6 a.m.

Henry added that Aiken knows the Australian players quite well and so she is expecting a dominant performance from her against the Aussies.

“We are expecting a great performance from her against Australia, because she knows them ... “Henry said.

“I think for her it is going up and not down. She is where she needs to be right now and she will definitely improve even more in her game,” she said.
