Here to fight! – Yeyo

-

Team Jamaica’s Nico Yeyo will be looking to bury the ghost of his past fight in the Wray and Nephew Contender Series, when he takes on Mayron Vieira Zeferino in the Jamaica vs Canada Season eight Welterweight boxing matchup at the Chinese Benevolent Association tomorrow night. Yeyo was jeered by his own Jamaican crowd for holding when he took on Canada’s Dave Leblond in what many regarded an ugly fight during last year’s Wray & Nephew Contender series. That was actually Yeyo’s debut season. Now he aims to make amends and change the perception of his North American opponents. “This fight on Wednesday will show my talent, overwriting my last fight on the show,” Yeyo declared. The Jamaican ended up losing the fight 47-47, 46-46, 48-44 after being deducted two points. Leblond also had one point deducted from his score. Yeyo, who won 10 of his 16 fights as an amateur before upgrading to the pro ranks in last year’s Contender series, says the build-up has been good. “The preparation for the fight has been intense ... I’m prepared mentally and physically,” he added. This is the second fight in the eight-bout first-round series. Jamaica’s number one seed, Richard ‘Frog’ Holmes, won the opening bout after earning a split decision over Lloyd Reyes last week and Yeyo sounded off confidently that he will increase Jamaica’s win record. All fights in the first round will be over five rounds. In the second round, the fighters go at each other over seven rounds and the finals will be fought over 10 rounds. Action will be broadcast live on TVJ, beginning at 9:30 p.m.
