My song is not about Marlon Samuels – Curvy Diva

-

Yanique ‘Curvy Diva’ Barrett is rubbishing claims made by critics that her latest single, Carry Feelings, is directed towards her rumoured ‘ex-boyfriend’, cricketer Marlon Samuels.

The raunchy single track takes a jab at men who disrespect women when they are unable to get what they want from them sexually.

“This is not directed towards any particular person as it wasn’t even written by myself alone. This song transcended weeks ago before all of this uproar, so once again people are just assuming. It is not a diss song towards that person. The song was released at this particular time because I am celebrating a milestone. Lifestyle was released a year ago,” she said.

She told THE STAR that Carry Feelings was recorded to empower women and to encourage them to walk away from ‘toxic’ relationships.

“Women have a choice and a right to be happy, and if the man does not add up then you should be able to minus yourself from that situation without fear or intimidation. Men who aren’t claimable will always remain in the friend zone,” she said.

For the past few weeks, Curvy Diva and Samuels have been at the centre of a nasty online brawl which saw the cricketer threatening to sue her for defamation of character. The fallout between the two popular personalities is said to be founded in an unconfirmed and unsuccessful romantic relationship.

“At no point in time have I ever called his name in any of my tweets or posts. I have never once called him out. He has been the one doing the name calling really. My career is really my focus right now, so the aim is to promote this single as well as the others so they can reach their full potential,” she said.

With the release of Carry Feelings, Curvy Diva wants to make it clear that she is in the music industry to stay and intends to make a mark internationally as a female dancehall artiste.

“I’ve worked hard in my first year and have seen myself develop as an artiste and songwriter working with other strong writers. With the release of this Feelings single, I’m telling everyone to expect the unexpected and never try to put me in a box,” she said.

She added that she is super excited about what her second year as a recording artiste has in store and is gearing up to release additional tracks in the upcoming months. She is also set to shoot the music video for Unfair Games, which is a collaboration with I-Octane.
