Donaldson praises JFF for Florida camp
Jamaica women’s team assistant coach Lorne Donaldson has said that it is always important to have a camp ahead of an important tournament such as the upcoming CONCACAF Caribbean World Cup Qualifiers next month.
The senior Reggae Girlz will be engaged in a week-long training camp in Orlando ahead of the start of the CONCACAF qualifiers, starting on May 9 against Guadeloupe, before playing Martinique and Haiti (hosts) on May 11 and 13, respectively.
The qualifiers in May will feature five groups with only the winner of each group going on to the next and final stage of the Caribbean round.
“It is always important for you to have a camp ahead of international competition, although it is not a very long camp, but when we can get the girls together is always a positive,” Donaldson said.
“I think we will come out of the camp very positive. These girls have not played together in a long, long time. We will be missing a few players for different reasons, but such is life,” he also said.
“The local-based girls were involved in a tournament last week and that was a good move from the federation. It was an opportunity to see what we have,” Donaldson added.
“Most of the players selected for the qualifiers are overseas-based players, Khadija Shaw and Konya Plummer and all these girls are local players who have migrated and are in college in the USA. There are some girls who are not available because of college exams and stuff like that,” he shared.
