Dancehall artiste Govana is set to depart the island later this week for North America as the headliner for a concert in Toronto, Canada. The artiste, whose birth name is Romeo Nelson, told The STAR that the event, scheduled for Friday, has been long overdue.

“I am definitely looking forward to the concert on Friday, the Canadian fans have been requesting my presence for some time now. However, everything is about timing and now is the right time,” he said. “I’m just encouraging all the fans to come out this weekend and have a great time with the ‘National’.”

This will be the artiste’s maiden performance in the Ontario capital. The event is set for the Classic Lounge on Beverly Hills Drive in the city.

The Gyal Clown hitmaker has been dominating the airwaves over the last few weeks as his song Bake Bean continues to gain popularity.

The song has become somewhat of an anthem in the dancehall, with the ‘full a sauce like bake bean’ line slowly becoming a slang.

While that song gains momentum, the deejay has also released a new single titled Better Than That, a collaborative effort with female songstress Jada Kingdom.

Alluding to relationship infidelity, the single was the number one trending song via YouTube in Jamaica for the past week and continues to trend in the top five.

Based on the current trend, Govana says plans are already in place for an official video to be shot.

Both Govana and Ms Kingdom had to come out last month to deny rumours of a budding relationship after a photo of them was posted on social media.

Govana described his relationship with Kingdom as strictly professional, declaring to fans that he does not “do mix up”.
