Hodges ready to take Mount Pleasant to RSPL

- MARC STAMP STAR Writer

Devon Hodges, the former national striker, is back in the parish of his birth to help Mount Pleasant of St Ann qualify for Jamaica’s top-flight football competition, the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL).

Mount Pleasant moved one step closer to the RSPL following a victory against Albion Mountain of St Mary in the Magnum/Eastern Confederation final last Sunday night at Drax Hall.

Hodges, who is the team’s captain, celebrated jubilantly with his teammates, coaching staff, management and supporters after the nail-biting 4-3 penalty-kick win. However, he is fully aware that the mission is not yet completed.

“It is a good feeling to be in the play-off for a berth in the premier league next season. We have a lot of good players in the squad, including young striker Kesslan Hall, who moved from Manchioneal in Portland to be with us. He is here doing a good job, as well as other quality players,” Hodges, who represented Wadadah, Rivoli United, Tivoli Gardens and Humble Lion in the premier league, told STAR Sports recently.

“We just have to continue the work. Most of the players have been here from June (last year) building the team.

“We just have to stay focused because in the play-offs we are going to meet other quality players, so we just have to go back to the training sessions and work hard to be prepared, and when the matches come, we go out there and do our best,” he said about the Jamaica Football Federation promotion series scheduled to start later this month.

The added:

“It was always our mission to be here for a chance to play in 33-year-old attacker the premier league. Now, we are looking forward to one of the two spots available.”
