Dunbeholden’s Premier League’s dream coming alive

- LIVINGSTON SCOTT STAR Writer

At the start of the 2017-2018 football season, not many pundits had Dunbeholden as their favourite to win the South Central confederation title and book a place in the Premier League play-offs.

But despite a slow start to their season, the St Catherine club found their footing and went on to win the St Catherine Major League before turning back favourites, St Bess 3-1 in the decider at STETHS for the South Central title.

The victory means that they will be the South central confederation’s representative in the playoff for a place in next season’s Premier League.

Although it will be Dunbeholden’s first time in the play-offs, coach Michael Cohen, said they are ready for the challenge and are hoping for the best.

“This is the first time in our history that we are reaching the Premier League play-offs. We plan on playing our own game and with hard work and dedication, we plan to bring it home,” he said.

“It is a challenge we are willing to take on. We believe our players are capable of doing the job. so we have to prepare ourselves both physically and mentally and if it is god’s will, let it be done,” he added.

On Sunday, goals from Lorenzo Dubidad, Horatio McKnight and Akeem Small saw the St Catherine side to a 3-1 win over their St Elizabeth opponent.

THROWING INCIDENT

Cohen’s only disappointment though, was that the missile throwing incident by St Bess spectators that deterred the trophy or medal presentation that was scheduled to take place after the match.

“We were just disappointed that we didn’t receive any trophy or medals. That was cancelled because of the throwing incident. We secured the players and ensure their safety,” he said

He continued: “At the beginning (of the season), we didn’t find the right chemistry but we kept working until we got it right and we peaked at the right time. Right now we are very happy, because when you are a loser you are an orphan but when you are a winner you have mothers and fathers. So the guys knew what they had to do and they worked very hard, stuck to the task and they did it,” he said..

The Premier League play-offs is scheduled to start in the 3 weeks.
