24 hours vet service at Caymanas Park this week – Bernard
Round-the-clock veterinary service is expected to be available at Caymanas Park, the home of local horse racing, by this week, says Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) chairman, Michael Bernard.
Speaking at the launch of the Lotto Classic at the Spanish Court hotel recently, Bernard said the deal that will allow medical care to be provided to the nation’s thoroughbreds, 24 hours a day, is all but done and dusted, but should be finalised by the end of this week.
“We are looking to provide vet services at Caymanas Park for trainers,” Bernard told STAR Sports. “... We are looking to have the service right around the clock.”
Although top local race horse and 2018 derby favourite WESTERN LEGEND passed away last week, Bernard insisted that was not what motivated the organisation to implement the 24-hour vet system for the race track.
He said it had long been in their plans but is only now coming to fruition.
“This horse (WESTERN LEGEND) passed but we have been planning this for quite some time, as part of our plan in the development of the race track.
“By next week (this week), we will have a vet at the park. We have already done the interview, it’s just for the person to sign. So we have a vet that is to be engaged between this week and next week. He has already been accepted and agreed (terms), so that (vet) is very much in place,” he said.
“We really want to add a full-time vet to the structure of the organisation to provide service in that area, so we are looking at providing around-the-clock medical services, so that’s is what we are really targeting,” he added.
