Whyte working for personal best

Following her surprise victory at last year’s National Senior Championships, Sprintec’s Rhonda Whyte is hoping to go faster this season than her personal best of 54.39 seconds

At yesterday’s second All Comers meet inside the National Stadium, where the athletes had to endure strong windy conditions, Whyte scored a good win in a strong field, clocking 56.09 seconds for the win. As usual, Whyte started off the early pace, and arrived for the final four hurdles, a bit back in the field, before closing well for her win.

Rushell Clayton finished second in 56.92 seconds, with Nikita Tracey coming third in 57.75 seconds. World Championships bronze medallist Ristananna Tracey, after working up an early lead, ended fifth in 58.88 seconds.

“My aim this year is to lower my personal best, as everytime I go on the track, I want to do that. I am not pleased with the time today, but it was really rough as the wind was very strong. My best part of my race is towards the end, where I usually finish very strong, but I could not do so today (yesterday), because the wind really threw me off,” Whyte said.

After an average performance in Europe last year in Diamond League competition, she is hoping for better things this season.

“I really want to do better this season and I have been training much harder. I just want to stay focussed and wherever the Lord leads me to, I will follow,” Whyte said.
