Cops charge 17 alleged members of Dexter Street Gang

-

Nineteen persons who are said to be members of the Dexter Street Gang in Westmoreland have been arrested. Four of the 19 persons are females. The police said 17 members have been charged under the Criminal Suppression of a Criminal Organisation Act of 2014.

“I am grateful for the support that has been shown and I would like to engage in that constant partnership with citizens,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Fitzroy Bailey.

The alleged gangsters – 13 males and four females – have been charged under the socalled anti-gang legislation. Bailey said their arrests have since “significantly disrupted” criminal activities.

According to the CounterTerrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC), the gang which comprises 34 members has been linked to 17 murders and 27 shootings in 2017. Since the start of 2018, the gang has been linked to 22 murders and several shootings islandwide.

The police said that a container with 19 firearms and more than 4,000 rounds of ammunition that was seized at a container terminal in Kingston in November 2017 was destined for the Dexter Street Gang in Westmoreland.
