IT’S MY SONG

- SHEREITA GRIZZLE STAR Writer

Dancehall artistes Neeqah and Jayds are at odds over a new song titled ‘Dick Appointment’. Both entertainers have claimed ownership of the song and are claiming that the other not only copied their style but stole the track.

When THE STAR spoke to Jayds, he said his version was released just over a week ago, but said that the song was recorded from March.

He said he was shocked at hearing a similar sounding song coming from Neeqah, and was equally astonished to hear accusations being hurled at him for ‘stealing her song’.

“What I want to know is how you can steal a song that unreleased because her song not even out yet,” he said. “Me nuh know how my song weh release already supposed to be the copy of a song that’s not out. Me nuh understand a wah kind a stunt dem a pull.”

The entertainer says he is not about to start a feud with any artiste over a song and said he is not prepared to go at it with a female.

NOT YET RELEASED

He explained that he just wants the public to know that he is the song’s original creator.

“Maybe the public nuh know the song but everybody inna our circle know the song and know a who fah,” he said.

But when THE STAR contacted Neeqah, she said that although her song is not yet released, she has been promoting it on her social media platforms for months now. She also said Jayds is a follower. “We have snap videos of vibing before it became an actual song, and is not a coincidence that him come out with supmn like this,” she said pointing out that both she and Jayds record for the same producer. “Him never go full out Dick Appointment; him say Di Appointment but the topic is similar, the first part of the hook is similar. His might be officially released, but I voiced this song like 18 weeks ago. The parts of the song that are similar, I always snap about it and so people hear it and know. The two songs out there, so people will hear it and know who really make sense. Me nah fight over this.”

Neeqah said she has learnt that the music industry is a dog eat dog world, and she will no longer preview any new material via social media.

She laments that it is a sad day when entertainers cannot tease their fans with new material.

“The music industry is all for itself, there is no loyalty and everybody just a do wah dem affi do fi demself. I’m just going to be very cautious in this business going forward,” she said.
