Williams off the mark for Atlanta United 2

- LAWRENCEVILLE, GEORGIA (CMC):

Reggae Boy Romario Williams scored his first goal in his first appearance of the season as Atlanta United 2 out-gunned Toronto FC II 5-4 in a thrilling goal spree in the United Soccer League on Wednesday night.

Playing at Coolray Field, Williams found the nets in the first half as the hosts raced to a 3-2 lead and the second half proved just as unpredictable as both sides scored twice, leaving the game with an equally dramatic finish.

Mikey Ambrose scored the first of his two free kicks in the fifth minute to put Atlanta ahead, but Ayo Akinola equalised in the 17th minute with a close-range strike to put Toronto back on level terms.

The 23-year-old Williams added Atlanta’s second in the 27th minute when he unleashed a stunning volley to cap off a fine move by Atlanta, and the hosts stretched their lead through Ambrose’s second goal in the 40th.

However, Atlanta pulled one back on the stroke of half-time through an Aidan Daniels penalty to leave the contest delicately poised at the break.

On resumption, Luca Uccello scored within the first three minutes to level the scores at 3-3, but Williams turned provider in the 50th as Jon Gallagher put the hosts ahead again.

Uccello’s 61st-minute strike added yet another twist, keeping the game in the balance until Brandon Vazquez’s goal ten minutes from the end produced the winner for Atlanta.
