Tommy Lee nuh run Flankers

Residents say deejay has no influence

-

Tommy Lee, whose given name is Leroy Russell, will know today if he will be charged or released. The popular deejay’s attorneys made a habeas corpus application on his behalf in the St James Parish Court last week challenging the police to justify his detention.

Meanwhile, residents of Flankers in the parish are rubbishing claims that dancehall artiste Tommy Lee Sparta is a major influence on happenings in the troubled community.

“Is only roun’ a Vietnam them man deh have nuh talk,” a resident told WESTERN STAR. “Is not like he is sponsoring football competitions or assisting needy students, or helping to change the lives of anyone, he does nothing.”

“Based on the amount of houses, Vietnam has about 100 persons living there, that is not all of Flankers,” the resident quipped. “Not to say the community nuh glad for his stardom, but for hard-working people like me, we are hoping for more positives for Flankers.”

CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES

When the WESTERN STAR visited Vietnam on the weekend, only a few youngsters were seen, and none was willing to speak to the media.

The police said Tommy Lee is being held under the state of public emergency in St James, and described him as a dangerous gangster who is behind many criminal activities in St James.

While he has been named as a person of interest in criminal investigations before, he has never been convicted.

In 2016, Tommy Lee was named a person of interest by the Kingston Eastern police after a shooting on Saunders Avenue.

Last year, the St James police also named him a person of interest in events which took place in Flankers, but no legal action came from these matters.
