Tyrese Reid, Christine Pemberton win Men of Might 5K

-

Organisers of the Cornwall College Old Boys’ Association Men of Might Wellness Weekend were pleased with the turnout for their 5K walk/run on Sunday.

Head of the organising committee Dennis Waite said the turnout was affected by the proximity to the staging of the Guardian Life Keep it Alive night run scheduled for Saturday.

“We didn’t reach our target as Guardian, being a week away, that offered a unique stumbling block to us. However, due to how we marketed the event, we were able to get up to over 750 this year, so I’m very much pleased with the turnout,” said Waite.

Tyrese Reid of Falcon Empire came away with the overall win, stopping the clock in 17:36.57 minutes. He was followed to the line by Rohealo Gregory (18:23.08) and Omar Spencer (18:38.44).

Christine Pemberton (24:22.35) won in the women’s section. She was followed by Yanique Miller Belmont (24:23.33) and Sylvia Brown (25:13.03).

Meanwhile, Keron Grant, coach of Reid, said Sunday’s 5K was used as preparation for the National Junior Trials later this year. Reid is expected to contest the 800 metres.

“This part of the season is usually the better part for him, and based on the preparation, he is expected to run under 1:49 (in the 800m) between trials and World Juniors.

Reid ran a season’s best 1:51.25 at the All Comers Meet in Kingston last weekend.
