Mount Pleasant ready for promotion test

- MARC STAMP STAR Writer

David Galloway, manager of Mount Pleasant, is oozing confidence that his team will advance to the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) for the first time in the club’s short history.

The St Ann-based outfit, who are winners of the Eastern Confederation, are scheduled to face South Central Confederation champions, Dunbeholden, in the first round of the Jamaica Football Federation – Red Stripe Premier League promotion series on Sunday at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

“Honestly, we are very very confident in taking one of the two spots available for promotion to the Red Stripe Premier League. We also know that the Premier League is a tough competition and we want to be ready,” Galloway said.

The play-off will be a round-robin home and away format and at the end of the series, the top two teams will advance to the RSPL.

“The preparation for the play-off series have been going well for us. Our intention was always to put in some extra work and the players are showing that in the training sessions,” Galloway told STAR Sports yesterday..

“We are fully aware that to make it to the Premier League, it needs extra work. More time, more work, so we are training like that right now,” he added about his team, which has made a fast rise since they formed two years ago. “We are absorbing everything and taking it one step at a time because that is our objective to play in the Premier League. We have some experienced players, who are putting in a lot of work and also talking to the younger players about what to expect in the play-off. The play-off is just like the Premier League so it is about commitment and dedication.”

In the other game, the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) champions, Barbican play away to Western Confederation champions, Wadadah.
