I ATOM DEFENDS CAPLETON

-

Reggae artiste I Atom is not perturbed by the controversy surrounding Capleton’s recent rape charges.

She believes that the artiste, who is also called ‘King Shango’, is a man of integrity and a mentor to younger artistes.

“The Capleton that I know would never do something like that. I am just wishing him prayers and blessings so that he can maintain the strength to overcome these allegations and clear his name,” I Atom said.

The singer recently did a collaboration with the dancehall star called Ganja Call, which has been generating much buzz in the streets. The controversy surrounding the star in recent weeks has also pushed the single’s spins on digital and online platforms.

“I am just giving Jah the glory because over the past two weeks, the views of the video has gone through the roof, and almost daily, people have been calling me and asking me my opinion about Capleton and the allegations. But I always feel comfortable around him. In fact, I feel like a daughter around him. He is always giving me advice. He is like a father figure to me,” she said.

I Atom, whose given name is Careen Hanchard, also said she was looking forward to performing Ganja Call with him on stage one day.

Two years ago, she walked away from her job as an agricultural extension officer in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to do music.

“I am fine-tuning my live onstage set because a few promoters in the Caribbean have approached me about shows,” she said.
