Dancehall artiste Stylysh is making her return to the local music scene after a two-year hiatus, and she is determined to show how much she has matured during her break from the spotlight.

With a goal of empowering women, the artiste decided to share some intimate details of her life, hoping to inspire women across the globe to stand against all forms of abuse.

The entertainer told THE STAR that she set goals for her career, and this time around her vision expands to more than just writing songs and performing. She said that she wants to positively impact lives.

With that said, the entertainer explained that she was inspired to ‘come out’ and share her story because she believes there are still too many women who accept anything a man dishes out to them because they believe they cannot do better.

“I was once in a relationship before I entered Magnum. I was physically abused, and I thought I couldn’t leave the man because every time I ran away from him, he would find me,” she shared.

WOMAN STRENGTH

“Even though him beat me, him always say him love me. I knew I was scared of him. Then, one day, I just ‘man up’ and take out restraining order against him. It was there and then I realised a woman strength him have cause him turn baby when the police started talking to him. A so me start go for my dream cause I couldn’t even look outside when I was with this man.”

Now that she is in a better place in her life and career, Stylysh believes she can use music to help other women gain the strength to leave toxic relationships, especially if they are abusive.

“Because of my experience, I hate when man try bully woman. This will encourage a lot of women and also build their self-esteem because I know for a fact that a lot of women have been broken because of this,” she said. “I want women to know their strength and know they are not alone.”

While she believes she can make a difference, Stylysh said that she cannot do it alone. She believes she is not the only female artiste with a story of abuse and wants her colleagues to share these horrors with the public.

The entertainer said that as public figures, artistes have a duty to help the mass in whatever way they can, and believes other female entertainers coming out to say they were abused will give women the boost they need to seek help.

“Sometimes they are afraid to speak out, but I think as public figures we should because it will give a lot of females strength. They will see that they are not alone, and it’s not OK for men to treat them like dirty cloth. At first, sharing your story seems like the hardest thing to do but once you do, it can be the most rewarding thing, especially when you start hearing from other women how much you’ve inspired them to stand up for themselves,” she said.
