Dunbeholden’s Gayle has strong faith in team
Craig Gayle believes that his Dunbeholden team is strong enough to advance to the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) next season after an impressive first round in the Magnum/Charley’s JB/JFF promotion play-off series.
Dunbeholden whipped Wadadah 4-0 yesterday and Gayle came off the bench late in the game to put his team 3-0 up in the 89th minute. His well taken goal added to strikes from Orrett Richards in the 24th and Dwayne Smith (51st). Another substitute, Kevaughn White completed the rout in time added.
The former Portmore United striker was obviously elated that the coach had faith in him and it paid off.
“I give thanks to the Most High first. The coach (Michael Cohen) knows what he is doing so he put me on and I killed off the game with my first goal in the play-off,” the lanky Gayle told STAR Sports after the game.
“We train very hard, so I feel great to win this game and move closer to the Premier League. We have three games remaining and intend to take it game by game,” he added.
“It is a dream for us and the community to qualify for the Premier League. We are on top because of the unity in the team. We have love and unity among us, we are like brothers, a family and can create history by going to the top league for the first time.,” Gayle pointed out.
“This victory today is a stepping stone, so we have to come out again next Sunday against Mount Pleasant in the return game and do the job. We beat them in the first round and expect another tough encounter,” he concluded.
Gayle represented Portmore United in the Premier League and Police National in the KSAFA Super League in the past.
In the day’s other game, Barbican and Mount Pleasant Football Academy battled to a 1-1 draw at Drax Hall in St Ann.
Dunbeholden lead the four-team play-off series with seven points, ahead of Barbican (five), Mount Pleasant FA (four) and Wadadah, who are without a point after three games.
