Vendor fined for calling cop b-man

Ajerk chicken vendor who admitted to calling a cop a b-man paid for his loose tongue when he appeared in the St James Parish Court last week.

Oliver Madourie pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, using indecent language, and failing to close his establishment under the terms of the ongoing state of public emergency in St James.

Parish judge Sandria Wong-Small sentenced him to 30 days’ imprisonment for failing to close his establishment under the state of emergency. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500 or spend 10 days in jail for disorderly conduct, and $1,500 or 10 days for using indecent language.

The court was told that on May 20, at 2:45 a.m., a police team was on patrol along Gloucester Avenue in Montego Bay when they saw Madourie selling jerk chicken on the roadside.

One of the officers told Madourie to shut down his stall as he was in violation of the closing times for businesses under the state of emergency. Madourie reportedly hurled abusive language at the officer, and he was subsequently taken into custody and charged.

Madourie told judge Wong-Small that the officer had used pepperspray on him.

“This police tear gas me eye for nothing at all, so I said, ‘You is a b-man,’” Madourie said.

“This man came at me and he sprayed tear gas on me a second time,” Madourie added.

Wong-Small asked Madourie whether he had locked down before the police got to him.

“Yes, the only thing that was left was to put my chopper and my fork in my bucket,” Madourie replied.
