Smith elated with Jamaica Women’s win
Coach of Jamaica Women, Cleon Smith, is elated at the winning start the team has made in the on-going Cricket West Indies Women’s Twenty20 Blast.
The Jamaicans, on the back of a solid all-round performance from captain Stafanie Taylor brushed aside Guyana by eight wickets at Sabina Park on Sunday in their opening match.
They are down to play Windward Islands today at Kensington, commencing at 9:30 a.m.
“It’s always good to get a first win, and I am pleased with how we performed,” said Smith.
“We were good in the field, except for a few extras upfront, and we were able to pressure their batters.
“This was then followed up with some clinical batting.”
Batting first, Guyana were restricted to 75 for eight off 20 overs.
Taylor with two for 11 and pac all-rounder Roshauna Outar, two for 12, led the way the ball.
Jamaica then achieved their target at 76 for two with a comfortable 3.5 overs remaining.
Out-of-favour West Indies opener Natasha McLean, 16, vice-captain Chadeen Nation, 15, ended unbeaten in chase, with Taylor, 16, and opener Jodian Morgan, 19, also getting among the runs.
“Based on the make-up of this team, and the experience our ladies have, I believe we can win this tournament,” Smith continued.
“It’s just for us to get the different departments together, as we have done in past tournaments,” he added.
Title-holders Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Barbados and Leeward Islands will do battle in the day’s other matches at Sabina Park.
