The dancehall fraternity in New York has been plunged into mourning following the murder of a popular Jamaican nightclub owner in Queens. The dead man, 59-year-old Errol ‘Scarrie’ Blackwood of Roosevelt, Long Island, was shot outside another nightclub and died while reportedly trying to drive himself to the hospital at around 3:30 a.m. Monday.

Blackwood was the owner of the Onyx Lounge in Queens, New York.

According to www.cbsnews.com, investigators are examining whether his death is connected to what appear to be gunshot holes in the wall of the Jouvay Night Club.

A source close to the deceased told THE WEEKEND STAR that a large crowd turned out Wednesday for Blackwood’s candlelight vigil.

“He will be sadly missed. Everybody know him, and it puzzling who would want to hurt a man like him. He was king and generous. The entire Jamaican community here in New York is at a loss for words”, the source told our news team.

THE WEEKEND STAR gathered from eyewitness reports that somewhere between 15 and 20 shots were fired at Blackwood.

Witnesses also told police that Blackwood, who hails from Rockfort in east Kingston, was talking to a woman when the shots were fired. He was the only one hit.

Investigators say he managed to get into his Volvo sedan and drive himself a few metres before he crashed into parked vehicles. He was pronounced dead at the Jamaica Hospital in Queens. Investigators have reportedly questioned suspects in the matter. However, no motive has been established for the killing.
