Jamaican-born artiste looks to R&B market

Jamaican R & B artiste Ray Anderson has released his latest single, ‘Relationship’. The single is featured on his upcoming album, N.U.D.E

The album title is actually an acronym, which stands for ‘Nostalgic, Uncensored, Desired, Erotica’.

Relationship will be distributed under Anderson’s label, Timeless Records. The single samples Champion, performed by veteran Jamaican dancehall artiste Buju Banton, which Anderson revealed, has been a personal favourite of his since childhood.

“Champion is a song which I liked while growing up and once I heard the beat for Relationship, immediately it came to mind. The sample has taken the song to the next level and will also resonate with Caribbean fans,” he said

Anderson also revealed that the song is personal and will strike a note with lovers. Not one to shield his vulnerability from the public, the artiste believes the freedom of expression he displays in the song and the album will help him bond with fans through music.

“My expectations for Relationship is for people to listen to feel-good music again. I want people to understand that it’s OK to fall in love, it’s OK to feel, and it’s OK to be in a relationship,” he said. “We’re all human and we all have emotions.”

Jamaicans looking to cross over into the R & B market over the years have not been very successful, but Anderson believes he has the talent to raise eyebrows internationally.

“I am based in the States, so I have an idea how to navigate the market and also how to create the appeal musically. Music is a universal language and once you make music that is good, people will understand and support it,” he said. “Since I am from Jamaica, persons would have expected me to do either dancehall or reggae, but even though I am a big fan of those genres, doing R & B shows just how talented and diverse we as Jamaicans can be; and success will be even more proof of that talent.”

Relationship is now available for purchase on all digital music retailers and streaming services worldwide. The accompanying music video is out on his YouTube.com.
