King Addies on cloud nine

-

New York City-based sound system King Addies is celebrating a major title success after being declared winner of the Civil War Cooler Clash of America. King Addies beat the kings of the southern region, Poison Dart Sound, in Tampa, Florida, on June 9 to lift their latest title.

“Winning Civil War is a great feeling. First, our winning streak continues. Second, it makes us feel like a change is near, where people are ready to embrace the new artistes of this generation. A vibe is there again,” Killaboo, one of the members of King Addies, said.

KingPin, another member of the sound system, said: “It was a good feeling because we went into another sound’s territory and got a clean and proper win.

“This clash really changed the game in America, with us playing mostly new tunes rather than the old songs that fans are used to. We juggled, entertained and killed one of North America’s prominent sounds.”

Poison Dart is the fifth sound King Addies has defeated by way of ‘lock off’ in less than a year. Three of those lock-off wins have been within the last three months. These commanding wins include notable opponents like the 2016 and 2017 World Clash champion out of Canada King Turbo; Yard Beat, the 2017 Boom Clash champion out of Japan; and Northern Lights, the 2017 World Clash contender from Italy.

Some die-hard sound-clash fans recently gave King Addies the moniker ‘America’s #1 Defender’ for their track record in clashes over the past three decades.

NEW COLLECTION

King Addies recently released the first instalment of The Killa Collection. It covers the golden years of sound-clash culture and includes clash bouts between the worlds greatest sound systems.

“The collection showcases the tremendous impact King Addies has left on the global sound clash arena, as well as the reggae, dancehall and rap music genres,” SwugeeDon said.

King Addies kicked off their 35th anniversary celebration in New York City in February. It featured the legendary Stone Love alongside Guyana’s Stereosonic. The festivities continue on July 21 at the signature Welcome to Newlots party in Brooklyn. It will feature Bass Odyssey from Jamaica, as well as Bronxbased 2017 World Clash contender Platinum Kids.
