Barbican face tough task at Dunbeholden

- MARC STAMP STAR Writer

Barbican FC manager, Chris James, says his team holds no fear going up against Dunbeholden in the penultimate round of the Magnum/Charley’s JB/JFF Premier League play-off at Dunbeholden Complex, St Catherine, tomorrow at 4 p.m.

Both teams are atop the standings on eight points apiece, from four games, in the battle for two available qualification spots to next season’s Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL). Mount Pleasant Football Academy come next on five points, while Wadadah are out of contention without a point.

Dunbeholden have won both home games and another win would see them promoted to the RSPL for the first time in the club’s history. However, Barbican have done well on the road, so it could be a competitive fixture.

“It is a very important game for both teams. If I don’t lose a game in the remaining two games, I will qualify, so it is important not to lose,” James told STAR Sports yesterday.

DISCIPLINED BUNCH

“We know that Dunbeholden is difficult to beat at home. The last game we played against them that ended 0-0, they outplayed us. They have a good coach, and a disciplined bunch of players,” he added.

“My team is experienced and play better on the road. There is no fear in my team and we will go there for maximum points on Sunday,” James said.

Barbican will be led by captain Ramone McGregor with support from Nicholas Campbell, Shaquille Lewis, Andrew Christie, Cornelius Simms and Kemar Thomas.

Coach of Dunbeholden, Michael ‘Richie’ Cohen, is confident that his team will continue their good form on home turf in front of their supporters.

“Coming into the Premier League play-off, it is always our aim to win all three home games. We have won two, so we remain on course with the plan,” Cohen shared.

“We have the same mentality going into the game on Sunday, We know that Barbican will be challenging, but we expect to win at home,” he added.

Dunbeholden’s key players include captain Ricardo Harriott, Damarley Oliver, Dwayne Smith, Orrett Richards, Jerome Wedderburn and Raheem Small for victory.

In the day’s other game, Mount Pleasant will face Wadadah at Drax Hall in St Ann, also at 4 p.m.
