Mayor says St James is Jamaica’s safest parish

-

MONTEGO BAY’S Mayor, Councillor Homer Davis, says that St. James is now one of Jamaica’s safest destinations.

“We have been in a state of public emergency in St. James for the better part of five months, and I can proudly declare to you today that our parish is now Jamaica’s safest parish. We have seen a massive 64.4 per cent reduction in murders since the implementation of the state of public emergency. Up to June 14, there were 47 murders in the parish for 2018, compared to 132 for the same period in 2017,” he said.

The mayor was addressing a ceremony at which officers of the Rotaract Club of Montego Bay were installed for the 2017-18 administrative year at the Bellefield Great House in St James on Sunday.

“I am sure you will agree with me that 47 murders up to June 14 is 47 too many. However, we must applaud the efforts of members of the security forces and the law-abiding citizens of St. James who continue to give support to the measures. As mayor of Montego Bay, I can publicly declare that the St James Municipal Corporation stands resolute with the Government and other state agencies in taking back St James from the clutches of criminals,” Davis stated. The mayor urged Rotaract Club members to help Montego Bay regain its reputation of being the friendly city, “where safety is once again our way of life”.
