Westmoreland murders continue to climb

-

Despite enhanced security measures and the dismantling of the much-feared Dexter Street gang, Westmoreland continues to bleed.

In fact, over the past 10 days, four persons have been murdered, putting additional pressure on the detectives assigned to the parish’s divisional headquarters in Savanna-la-Mar, who have had nearly 70 murders to deal with since the start of the year.

The two latest victims have been identified as 29-year-old Michael Annon, a security guard of Smithfield and Bentley Walker, of Pee Wee Lane, in West End, Negril. In the first incident last Friday, a fisherman was attending to his boat along a section of the Paradise Beachfront property, near Savanna-laMar, when he stumbled upon Annon’s body lying along the beach, and he summoned the police.

BODY DUMPED

On the arrival of the police, they discovered that Annon was shot in his head. His hands and feet were also bound. The investigators have theorised that he was killed elsewhere and his body dumped on the beach property.

In the second incident on Sunday, residents in West End saw Walker’s body floating in a section of the Negril River and raised an alarm. On the arrival of the police, they found Walker’s head bashed in among other injuries.

Westmoreland, which was the first parish to record a murder in 2018, is now the nation’s new murder capital with 68 murders since the start of the year.
