Promising young footballer Roshane Reid has fallen victim to career-ending gun violence in Montego Bay, St James.
The 25-year-old former St James High School striker, who had his right leg amputated earlier this year, refused to get into details of what transpired in February in the district of Norwood in Montego Bay. However, he said that he was unfortunate to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time when he was shot.
Reid, who was part of the 2008 winning daCosta cup team while a St James High, helped guide Reno back to the Premier League in 2010. However, his last days in football came for the Montego Bay Boys’ and Girls’ Club in the JFF Western Confederations/Charley’s JB Rum Super League, where he was the second-leading scorer with 15 goals in 2017.
ASSISTANCE NEEDED
Reid is now calling on the public for further assistance with medication and getting an artificial leg.
“I wanted to become a professional footballer, and for something like this to happen to me ... right now, I feel stressed out,” said Reid.
“Right now, I’m in need of some help to get a false foot (prosthesis), so as soon as the cut is fully healed, I can get around and help myself,” he added.
Ferene Lawrence, operations manager of the Montego Bay Boys’ and Girls’ Club, said they are prepared to provide some assistance to their former top striker.
“We will try to lend our assistance in getting him an artificial leg because as a club, we always try to look after everyone who represents us,” said Lawrence.
