Worthless dad stopped paying child support

-

Alicia* wishes that her child’s father would come out of hiding and help take care of his child. According to Alicia, the man, who is a former security officer, left Jamaica in 2015 and that was the last time that he paid child support.

She said that he was ordered by the court in 2010 to pay $7,000 per month for their daughter and this payment was being made. However, it stopped two years ago.

“When the payments stopped coming in, I went to his workplace and they told me that he had quit,” she said.

From then, Alicia has been raising her daughter by herself.

“I am doing my best as a parent and my daughter is an ‘A’ student. I don’t want her to falter because I alone cannot manage, and that is why I want him to step up,” she said.

Alicia told THE STAR that her child’s father has hardly been in her life.

“We were together for two years and he said that he wanted a child. When I got pregnant, he changed his mind and told me to abort the baby and I did not. I was always having problems with him paying child support,” she said. “My daughter is nine now and I don’t think she has seen him for four months straight in her life.”

COMPEL HIM

Hoping to get her child’s father to step up, Alicia has gone back to court in the hope that the State could help locate him and compel him to support the child.

“They told me that if I can locate the state he is in, and have a picture of him, they could try and find him for me. But if they file a request to the United States, the case out here will be thrown out,” she related.

Alicia has opted against having a request filed, arguing that she would lose unpaid child support, which dates back to 2015. She hopes he will be a man and step up for his daughter.
