- SIMONE MORGAN-LINDO STAR Writer

“When Brazil fans dem realise say dem a go dead like dawg, dem stop buy mi flag dem. Argentina a me side but right now a Belgium the ting deh. Me no know or care what kinda language dem talk but a Belgium me say straight. Belgium deh down a Tivoli too and a dung deh me live,” flag vendor Niney Badness said.

Although she was surrounded by Brazil supporters, Niney wasn’t afraid to express the joy she felt following Brazil’s 2-1 loss in the World Cup quarter-finals yesterday.

“Me feel good and although sale slow today, me belly full up a niceness. Brazil dead like stray dawg. Me just a go roll up dem flag ya neatly for the next four years,” she told the news team excitedly.

At North Parade, flag vendor Kingsley packed away the flags of all the losing sides except Brazil. He said he would now jump on France’s band wagon as he looks forward to supporting Brazil in the 2022 World Cup.

But the majority of Brazil fans in downtown Kingston were not ready to give up.

“Me proud a Brazil no matter what. Me is a diehard Brazilian. Right ya now, a bare Brazilian currency the buyer dem a spend from morning,” said ground provision vendor Teejay Reid.

Leighton McFarlane didn’t take Brazil’s defeat with a smile though and had to seek a strong drink to calm his nerves.

Looking out of his business on Orange Street, he could hardly find words to express his disappointment but stated that he would never jump ship.

“Me really feel like dem did a go win but when me see the first goal me entire body get weak. The game change when dem score pon dem self and if dem never do that we woulda win but better luck next time. Brazil a still me team,” he said.

A few metres away, Marie and her friends were still celebrating despite the loss. They were in a jubilant mood as they posed beside a huge Brazil flag and danced to music that blared from the speaker boxes near by.

Marie’s friend jokingly tried to set her Brazil flag on fire but she pushed her away, while continuing her ‘dance of defeat’.

“Me a Brazilian from birth and nothing can’t change that. A we help the next side win cuz we sorry for dem and give dem a goal. Dem never win World Cup yet so we kind enough to make dem go tru,” she said.
