ACorporate Area couple is imploring householders to be careful of letting ‘Christian-like’ persons in their homes.

The couple, who are in their early 90s, stated that they were recently robbed of jewellery and clothing items by a woman posing as a domestic helper.

“She look like a Christian and even pray with us before she start work. Di gal all get inna spirit during the prayer and after that me go lay down because me never feel too good,” Mary Brown* said.

Brown said she later discovered that her home was ransacked and several of her personal items were missing.

“When she left, me realise say she take me watch, some a me good pretty underwear dem and a dress whe me take a picture in with my husband. Is credit I take out the dress on, enuh, and pay for it after and the gal tief it. Once again, me call the police but no one come,” she said.

NOT THE FIRST TIME

She said ‘once again’ because this is not the first time that the Browns have been robbed by one of their employees.

Six years ago, their gardener took off with cash, jewellery and other personal items. The couple, who had spent little more than 30 years in the US, returned home in 2002.

“Him nice looking and everything and him work wid we for a long time, so we never take him for a tief. Him nuh suppose to have access to the house but him reach in there secretly one day when I wasn’t at home. Him take at least $20,000 and jewelleries. We never see him back,” Mr Brown said.

The couple said they reported the matter to a Corporate Area police station and the officer, who took their statement, promised to visit their home but didn’t.

“Don’t allow anyone inside your home, especially the ones who wah pray for you and come with Christianity. Right now we are without a helper but we will keep it that way. My husband and I do whatever we can,” Mrs Brown said.
