Who killed ‘Fat Man’?

Mother blames police for shooting her son

- HOPETON BUCKNOR STAR Writer

Controversy is swirling as to who shot and killed a resident of Lucea, in Hanover, last Friday afternoon. The family of the deceased man is blaming his death on the police, but the police are saying they are not responsible.

According to the police, the dead man, identified as Nicko ‘Fat Man’ Campbell, was riding his motorcycle, with a pillion on board, along the main road from Sandy Bay to Lucea, when a car pulled up alongside them and its occupants opened fire on them. The motorcycle got out of control and fell to the ground with both men.

The police, who were early on the scene, transported the men to the Noel Holmes Hospital, in Lucea, where Campbell, who had sustained multiple bullet wounds, was pronounced dead. The other man was admitted in serious condition.

While the police are blaming Campbell’s death on the rampant criminality in the parish, Campbell’s mother, Annett Calvin, has an entirely different theory and is pointing the fingers at the police.

“A di police dem kill mi son,” said the distraught mother. “Di police dem come a mi yard two times Friday a look fi Nicko and mi ask them seh what dem a look fi him fah, and dem seh him was a suspect inna shooting and then dem lef,” Calvin said.

“Dem come back inna de evening and little bit after dat, mi get news seh Nicko meet inna accident and dead,” continued Calvin. “At first, we did think seh a crash him crash and dead, but then wi hear seh a gunshot,” she added.
