Shenseea targets Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé levels
Shenseea told THE STAR.
The Star of the Month is internationally active, evident in her frequent
flyer miles. Particularly for this summer season, the 21-year-old will scarcely spend any weekend in the land of wood and water. “A lot of people would say I’m international now because I’m travelling — and I have a major fanbase across the world. Every single place I go, there’s always #ShenYengs. But for me, where I want to reach — I’m talking about some Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce type levels. That’s international to me — where I don’t even have to take a show; I can do my own shows ... my own tours,” she said.
GOING INTERNATIONAL
To accomplish a reputation comparable to the likes of those pop icons, Shenseea believes she must employ stan-culture; by capturing the attention of more internationally-based fans, and gaining their unfailing loyalty.
“I’m still trying to work to get their attention. Remember, I have the Caribbean and I have my country. Once you build your fan base with something now, and you show them the type of person you are, you know seh dem start get loyal and loyal ... you know that anything you throw at them, they will like it,” the Shen Yeng Anthem singer said.
Following the recent release of her feature on Christina Aguilera’s latest album, the local star revealed that there is more international work in the pipeline.
“I’m working on a lot of international stuff now, that you guys have not heard. I haven’t released anything of that sort,” she said, offering a two-year timeline to make it big internationally.
“I have to just keep on doing my thing when it comes on to reggae and dancehall music — and when my fan base is really, really big, then I can move on,” Shenseea said.
