Leveridge rubbishes injury rumours

- ROBERT BAILEY STAR Writer

Jamaican pace bowler Reynard Leveridge says he is fully fit and ready to return to international cricket for the regional side. Leveridge told STAR Sports that the rumours circulating within the cricketing world that he is injured are not true.

“There have been some talks that I have been injured, but I am not, and I just cleared it up with the chairman of selectors (Courtney Browne) for the West Indies today (Tuesday),” said Leveridge after participating in a bowling session with members of the Windies team at Sabina Park, in Kingston, yesterday.

“He (Browne) said that he was told that I was injured, but I wasn’t, because I have been fully fit for over a year now,” he said.

The 27-year-old Leveridge has so far taken nine wickets for the Windies A from nine matches at an average 30.66.

The right armed fast bowler has also taken 16 wickets from 11 matches for the Jamaica Scorpions, at an average 30.62 in regional competition.

VERY BAFFLED

Leveridge added that during the last two seasons, he has represented the Windies A away to Sri Lanka A; against the England Lions A team in the Caribbean, and also the Jamaica Scorpions. Therefore, he was very baffled by the rumours that he was injured.

“I was injured in early 2016, but I am fully fit and ready to play cricket,” said Leveridge. “I am fully fit because I have been doing my gym and strength work, and I am ready to go,” he said.

He added that he was very disappointed that he was not selected for the Windies A’s ongoing tour of England, but he is looking forward to representing the Jamaica Scorpions in their upcoming regional competitions.

“I have the 50-overs competition up, so I am looking forward to that. I also have the four-day tournament in January, and I am looking forward to that as well. I want to see if I can get back on the Windies A team and take it from there,” said Leveridge.
