All-White Affair at Pier One
Whether they wore white or not, patrons of night three of Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest experienced unadulterated niceness at All-White Affair at Pier One Restaurant and Bar on Tuesday night. Comfortably the largest all-white party staged by the event’s organisers, Pier One was packed to capacity, and a recently expanded area of the popular Montego Bay eatery played hosts to the hundreds in attendance. Gripped by the pulsating tempo that emanated from the turntables of DJs Smoke and Illusion, those who donned some of the most stylish white outfits, in sync with the theme, confirmed in no uncertain terms that Pier One came alive at 11 p.m., when the fire in the music finally lit up the venue.
SERVING UP A GOOD SET
With enough space to showcase their prowess on the dance floor, patrons became slaves to hit after hit and the diversity of the music that Illusion rocked the pier with. There was absolutely nothing delusional about his ability to serve a good set, and this he did.
Opening his second one-hour set with Luis Fonsi’s Despacito Despacito, Illusion paid tribute to Latin America before journeying down to Africa for some Zouk. When he reached Jamaica, he pulled for Party Animal, and true to form the women needed no convincing that they had permission to ‘galang’ bad.
It was total disorder, and the party people had no behaviour.
Smoke returned for his second round and it was obvious that he could spin some strong and diverse music.
Staying with the music of the land — sweet reggae, for a significant period, Smoke show incredible versatility and took responsibility for the great musical experience that many will remember for years to come.
