Excelsior no problem, says Graham-Powell

Holmwood Technical coach Carline Graham-Powell said they have nothing to fear when they face Excelsior High in today’s final of the Americas Federation of Netball Associations (AFNA) Champion of Champions High Schools Netball Tournament at the Leila Robinson Courts starting at 5 p.m.

In the curtain raiser this afternoon, Christ Church Foundation and Springer Memorial both of Barbados will meet in the third-place play-off at 3 o’clock.

Excelsior will start today’s final as the favourites to win the title, having defeated Holmwood in the national allisland final last year.

However, Graham-Powell said her team is much better prepared for this final and she is very confident that they will come out the winners.

“We are very confident because I like what I saw in this semi-final and the girls are fit and ready for this final,” said Graham-Powell.

NOT REALLY WORRIED

“We have a team that is more experienced, a team that has been working on all the weaknesses that they had and so we are not really worried about Excelsior,” she said. “We are going out there to do our best as we know that we are champions and we know that it is possible for us to take this championship,” Graham said.

Holmwood, who have also been very impressive in the competition, booked their spot in the final with an easy 45-14 victory over Springer Memorial yesterday.

Holmwood will be led by Shadine Bartley, who scored 27 goals from 37 attempts in their semi-final win over Springer yesterday.

She is expected to receive good support from Aliah Lue, Sasha-Gay Forbes and Kimberly Gordon.

On the other hand, Excelsior secured their place in the final with an easy 61-42 win over Christchurch Foundation yesterday.

National senior representative Hasana Williams, led the way for Excelsior with 44 goals from 55 attempts. She received support from Racoya Douglas, who scored 17 goals from 28 tries.
