Powell quits MoBay United again
Orville Powell has abdicated his position as president of Red Stripe Premier League outfit Montego Bay United again.
Powell, who acquired the franchise from 2011, said that he is fed up with the way football is being run in Jamaica.
“Mi finish with it, I just don’t want to talk about any football. I have said before that I done with it,” Powell told STAR Sports yesterday.
With the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) new season set to kick off late August, this could spell trouble for the Montego Bay-based club.
In a STAR article published on June 10, 2014, Powell resigned for a short period.
FOOTBALL FRATERNITY LACKS
That resignation came months after his club won their first RSPL title.
His reason for walking away at the time was because the local football fraternity lacks ‘forward thinkers’.
“When there is a lack of policy, little adherence to defined standards, lack of forward thinkers or forward planning to determine the best relationships for sponsorships, transparency and accountability, it speaks to poor management, it speaks to madness and I refuse to be aligned with that, and have decided to demit office as of June,” Powell said at the time.
MBU’s chief operating officer, Sandra Christie, said that the club will host a press conference in the future to address several matters.
“Dr Jermaine Spencer is the chairman and we will have a press launch soon to address matters,” Christie shared.
In July 2011, the franchise was acquired by Orville Powell and rebranded as Montego Bay United.
